We are a group of AEA members who are interested in the topic of social impact measurement and management and exploring the interplay between the social and financial return of investments. We come from many backgrounds: from evaluators to evaluation commissioners, investors to investees. Membership in our TIG means that you want to learn more about evaluating the social impact of organizations that are aiming to produce both a social and a financial return, whether you are at the forefront of this work or just learning about it.
The Social Impact Measurement TIG was launched in 2016 at Impact Convergence, the pre-conference to AEA's Annual Conference in Atlanta. The TIG's purpose is to:
- Contribute to greater awareness and knowledge sharing amongst the conventional evaluation sector and market actors interested in evaluating the social impact of work that also aims to have a financial return;
- Develop and/or adapt evaluation tools, methods and approaches for innovative finance and market-based models that examine social impact or investments that also aim for a return on their capital; and
- Strengthen the evaluative capacity of individuals and organizations to assess and evaluate social impact for this emerging and growing area.
