Survival analysis is a quantitative method of analysis that measures the risk and occurrence of a particular event and can examine potential predictors that influence the timing of a target event. This method is unique due to its ability to create profiles showing how patterns of particular risk and protective factors influence the occurrence of a phenomenon. Survival analysis is a valuable methodology that can inform the design and evaluation of programs. This roundtable will discuss the method of survival analysis and its capabilities in examining longitudinal data. Examples of survival analyses will be included, with program and non-program data, to demonstrate its value in program evaluation as well as its ability to inform program design. Strengths and limitations of using this methodology in evaluation research will be discussed, including how understanding the risk of an outcome occurring can be crucial in evaluation research.
