Handout and notes from the roundtable session at the 2014 AEA conference. Session abstract: More and more funders are requiring programs to simultaneously conduct research and evaluation studies. While research and evaluation have many similarities, their priorities, language, methods, data collection tools, and reporting methods often differ in important ways. We are members of a research team and evaluation team who have been collaborating on the scale-up of a science, engineering and technology program for middle and high school girls. We will give a brief presentation about how we approached our collaboration. We will describe the strategies we found to be effective for working together and with our client, and technological tools that facilitated our distance collaboration. Following the presentation, we will lead a discussion with the following guiding questions: What has your experience been with evaluation/research collaborations? How can evaluation/research be complementary? How can they compete/interfere with each other? What strategies are useful in situations where both evaluation and research are taking place?#STEMEducationandTraining #2014Conference
