Evaluators often work in complex situations that are hard to describe. Traditional logic models have been the primary tools for wrapping our heads around program theory and context. However, in complex situations, these logic models quickly become so overcrowded with boxes and arrows that it is nearly impossible to actually understand the system's dynamics. In a logic model, annotating assumptions, feedbacks, path dependencies and other features of complexity is clumsy if possible at all. This skill-building workshop will teach you how to create and use an alternative sense-making tool that is based on systems thinking: the System Story. After a brief introduction, participants will have hands-on time to create their own System Story using fun worksheets and activities guided by the presenter. Then, we will practice using our System Stories and end with reflections on when and how this tool might fit in your exemplary evaluation practice this year.#Complexity #logicmodel #SystemsinEvaluation #2015Conference #IndependentConsulting #Systems #HowTo #metaphor #story
