Abstract: This poster examines the implementation of an educational early science learning trans
-media Hero Elementary program, designed for K-2nd grade students, in six studies across both formal and informal learning contexts. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Hero Elementary program embeds Next Generation Science Standards into a series of hands-on activities and digital activities, including digital games, e-books, and a digital science notebook. In implementing the evaluation across a variety of early learning contexts, our team identified key components that were important for an evaluation of the Hero Elementary program be implemented with high fidelity in Pre-K 2nd environment. In this poster, we address best practices around working with a diverse group of educators with different backgrounds in pedagogical knowledge, logistical challenges, and strategies to address the challenges of implementing the Hero Elementary program in the intended context of low-income communities. Our discussion will synthesize learnings across our five studies to inform future evaluations of trans-media programs.
