Development actors have an obligation to evaluate and act upon unintended outcomes to optimize impact and do no harm. Using the case of a Mercy Corps-led $39 development food security program funded by the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), this poster introduces the "I See To Act" (IC2A) methodology for evaluating and acting upon unintended outcomes and its core components:1. A five-step framework for systematically inquiring and acting upon unintended outcomes2. A typology for classifying unintended outcomes3. A decision-making matrix to facilitate action planning. The poster sheds light on emerging evidence about the influence of IC2A on project performance and adaptive management, and further examines enabling factors to effectively implement IC2A in Monitoring and Evaluation systems.
