Qualitative Comparative Assessment (QCA): Session 1483:Unlocking Renewable Energy Development to Help Mitigate Climate Change: Exploration of Causal Links through QCA

11-27-2019 15:48

Renewable energy (RE) is expected to make a major contribution to mitigating climate change in a clean energy transition towards more sustainable means. However, the major constraints to a success may lie beyond technical innovation, and instead require addressing various other key barriers to RE development. As a part of a major evaluation on RE, the World Bank undertook a Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) to explore the causal relationship between various barriers and achieving energy and environmental outcomes based on a theory of change for mobilizing investments in the sector. It helped identify causal pathways indicating necessary and sufficient conditions for successfully developing RE in-line with the expectations for achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
