Minneapolis Public Schools is the first district in the country to systematically implement a Youth Participatory Evaluation program across all 30 middle and high schools. Since 2015, youth teams have collected data from peers and adults in their school, analyzed this information, and presented recommendations to school administration and district leadership. Drawing on program materials and participant reflections from the first two years of this program, this session will explore preliminary findings on the ways in which youth evaluation can impact schools and districts. Using MPS as a case study, the session will outline the institutional and individual factors needed in a K-12 system for youth voice to be authentically heard by adults and to influence school and district decisions.
