How Can Non-Profit Evaluators Best Support Field Staff in Data Collection?

10-21-2013 17:48

This think tank asks participants to reflect on best practices to support field staff in data collection. We begin with a brief case study of the College Success Foundation’s AmeriCorps College and Career Readiness Program, discussing four main strategies that we have used to increase data quality, data collection efficiency, and data use: 1) Engage field staff in the revision of survey items at the end of each program cycle; 2) Provide a paper survey option when computer access is not available; 3) Deliver tailored, descriptive data back to each field staff member as quickly as possible; and 4) Dedicate time for field staff to discuss the meaning of their data and to articulate how these findings will inform their practice. We ask small groups to reflect on these and their own best practices before compiling responses to post to the AEA library.
