Evaluation Policy Task Force Town Hall - July 31, 2025

Nicki Sheffield
On Thursday, July 31st, the American Evaluation Association hosted a Town Hall led by the Evaluation Policy Task Force exploring the process of
updating the influential
Evaluation Roadmap for a More Effective Government
for today's challenges and opportunities.
Originally created in response to President Obama's evidence-based policymaking initiatives, the Roadmap has become a cornerstone framework for institutionalizing evaluation’s essential components across federal programs, and state, local, tribal, and international governments, who have begun to adopt its principles for their own contexts. With the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018 now well-established and federal evaluation practice continuing to evolve, it's time to reimagine how this framework can best serve governmental and public sector contexts broadly.
During this virtual Town Hall, members had the opportunity to learn more about the process and approach to updating the Roadmap and offer their perspectives on strengthening the Roadmap's relevance and impact for the next five years.
Speakers:
Christina Yancey, Ph.D., Vice President, Employment & Economic Opportunity, American Institutes for Research (EPTF Interim Chair)
Esther C. Nolton, Ph.D., Principal Consultant & Founder, Everstead Strategies (EPTF and AEA Board Member)
Kathryn E. Newcomer, Ph.D., Professor of Public Policy and Public Administration, George Washington University’s Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration (EPTF Member)
Nathan Varnell, Policy and Research Analyst, Data Foundation (Consultant to the EPTF)
