Evaluation 2014 Conference - Session 297: Nine is fine, but not divine, refined, or sublime

11-04-2014 07:30

This roundtable session will provide participants the opportunity to discuss how Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) requirements (i.e., fewer than 10 respondents) and other frequently encountered constraints impact their qualitative research and evaluation designs. The facilitator will invite participants to discuss experiences with studies that encounter PRA and other constraints, and the impact on quality of their design and evidence, and utility of findings. How do policies, like PRA, shape our approaches, especially within qualitative designs, and consequently impact our evidence and influence our claims? Arguably every quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method evaluation/research study has many elements that may limit what can be done, but because PRA regulations are legislated, they can seem a more invasive and pervasive constraint. To set the stage for the discussion, the facilitator will provide her perspective as the principal investigator of multiple federally funded evaluations and research studies impacted by PRA.
