Designing an internal evaluation system across a diverse set of arts education programs is a complex challenge. Programs can have varying aims, audiences, and contextual variables that can often be in flux. This panel examines the initial groundwork for a common evaluation system that will meet programmatic requirements, as well as explore the types of educational opportunities, professional learning, and network capacity-building that will support diverse leaners through the arts. This panel features three papers that discuss strategies for assessing student engagement, evaluating teacher professional development, and evaluating equitable access across networks of arts partnerships. While each of these papers has a specific focus, the evaluation strategies being presented are being applied to varied programs, materials, and contexts, which are at times nested together. Across the papers we argue for the development of a common language of improvement- from shared goals and operational definitions to a system of shared measurements and knowledge sharing.#Arts #ArtsCultureandAudiences #Eval16 #artseducation #2016Conference
