Eval17 Presentation Integrated pest management (IPM) is a science-based process that identifies and reduces risks from pests and pest management practices in agriculture, natural areas, schools, and other environments. Federal agencies including the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have invested heavily in research and extension of IPM science. While they have a logic model in place, they have not developed a national standard to evaluate impacts, making it hard to tell the IPM story. Common measures would improve IPM scientists’ documentation of impacts, ensure that stakeholder needs are being met and help stakeholders advocate for increased IPM funding. The Regional IPM Centers formed a working group, including IPM stakeholders and evaluation experts, to develop a set of measures that can be aggregated to evaluate national IPM success. While this effort is ongoing, we will present lessons learned from the process and share a preliminary set of measures for federal IPM programs.
