While evaluation planning is a well-studied craft, it remains a large and, in many cases, ongoing challenge. This is particularly true for new evaluators and those working on large-scale, complex, and/or developmental evaluations. To help coordinate the ongoing evaluation planning needs of several multi-site, multi-year evaluations (two of which include developmental evaluation components) the presenters created a process and template for developing “mini plans.” These mini plans are used to document the many details of individual evaluation activities, and have been created for data collection efforts such as rounds of annual interviews and survey administrations. Mini plans are first used to develop a more detailed implementation plan than typically appears in an overarching evaluation plan. They are then used to capture information about adjustments made, or notes related to implementation that can later support data analysis or subsequent data collection activities.
