Presentations from a multi-paper session "Lessons Learned From an Evaluation of a Universal Free Meals Pilot Project in West Virginia." The project provided breakfast and lunch to all students in 72 schools during the 2011-2012 school year. Overall, feedback from stakeholders from surveys and conducted individual and group interviews regarding the pilot project was overwhelmingly positive indicating it was worth the investment of resources. Stakeholders reported healthier menus and witnessed large increases in student meal participation compared to previous years. Teachers reported some positive impacts on students in the classroom. Major stakeholder concerns included inadequate kitchen equipment and cooking staff; potential loss of time for classroom instruction; student wait time for meals; distribution of food, and food waste. Results show differences among stakeholder groups about project implementation. Knowledge of these differences may benefit schools considering a universal free meals program.#MixedMethodsEvaluation #2013Conference #EvaluationUse #Prek-12EducationalEvaluation
