Presentation materials and supporting documentation for panel session 731: Organizational Funding Portfolios and Beyond: Assessing the Full Research Landscape Abstract:How can large research funding organizations best guide their investment decisions and effectively collaborate and coordinate their research efforts with funding partners? Analyses geared at identifying gap areas should survey the whole research landscape and allow a funding organization to put its research portfolio in the context of all stakeholders in the area. Portfolio analysis informs decisions regarding gaps to address through a new initiative. These analyses also assess whether proposals responding to the solicitation are aligned with initiative priorities. This session will present examples of portfolio analyses addressing: what does the research landscape look like as a whole?; are there portfolio gaps in need of a new initiative?; and are proposed projects addressing identified gaps? We present an example from the National Institute of Mental Health’s Office of Autism Research Coordination, on behalf of Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, and two examples from the National Cancer Institute.#Research,Technology, andDevelopmentEval #2012Conference
