Session 583: Developing Indicators for Environmental and Policy Change Initiatives Presentation #1: Method and Process of Identifying Indicators of Obesity for the Community Transformation Grants Context Scan by Reid Hogan-Yarbro, Catherine Lesesne, and Robin Soler Presentation #2: Developing Indicators for the Convergence Partnership Evaluation by Dana Keener-Mast & Kari Cruz Multipaper Session Abstract: As environmental and policy change initiatives continue to move further upstream (i.e., more focused on primary prevention), evaluators are challenged to develop indicators that represent an increasingly complex landscape of changes and improvements across multiple systems and domains (e.g., built environment, food systems, transportation, economy, housing, education, equity, and health systems). This session will review and discuss principles of indicator development in the context of two large-scale initiatives aiming to promote health equity through environmental change strategies. Drawing from experience working with the Community Transformation Grants program and the Convergence Partnership, panelists will describe the purpose and scope of the indicators for each project, processes and methods used to develop the indicators, and unique challenges associated with developing indicators for environmental and policy change initiatives.
