Real-time evaluation (RTE) is one of the field’s latest responses to evaluation reports that come too late to be actionable or relevant. Our clients (which includes nonprofits and foundations) operate in complex ecologies and program implementation is not straightforward. As a result, they are looking to evaluation as a way to improve their programs in real time rather than proving efficacy. This session demonstrates how one nonprofit organization, Juma Ventures, has used RTE as a tool to inform program development and fine-tune their work. We will demonstrate the ways in which RTE goes beyond traditional formative evaluation in terms of design and approach, engagement and involvement of program staff, the role of the evaluator, and reporting frequency. Methodological limitations, tradeoffs, and costs to consider in RTE will also be discussed.#CollegeAccessPrograms #developmentalevauluation #Consulting #nonprofit #Non-ProfitsandFoundationsEvaluation #HowTo #realtimeevaluation #2012Conference #OrganizationalLearningandEvalCapacityBuilding
