This paper presents the relevant literature on community of practice (CoP), focuses on practices and applications learned through working with the CoP, and presents evaluators’ reflections. A CoP is defined as a group of people who share an interest or profession and desire to learn collectively (Wenger, 2006). Members engage in activities that promote information sharing through meaningful collaboration, enhancing the group’s knowledge base while members actively work to achieve a common goal. Edvantia staff members who are evaluating federally-funded comprehensive technical assistance centers (CCs) have evolved into a fully functioning CoP. Initially, the evaluators met on a monthly basis to discuss ongoing evaluation efforts across the CCs. Those meetings progressed to sharing and exchanging ideas that would inform one another’s practices. The goal of the paper is to provide useful information to evaluation professionals who might be considering building their own internal evaluation capacity through a CoP. Wenger, E. (2006).
