An AEA local affiliate tested a study group model of professional development in which organizers did not have high expertise at the beginning. The topic of learning was organizational network theory and evaluation. Attendees met monthly for 8 months. We evaluated the course through an on-line survey, repeated reflection exercise, self-reported homework completion, and attendance. While the course seemed to be successful in terms of attendees learning what they came to learn, a lack of content expertise does seem to create some challenges. We offer tips for helping to alleviating some of these challenges.#2011Conference #localaffiliates #HowTo #studygroup #TeachingofEvaluation
