Effective inclusivity in Evaluation: How Evaluators Can Be Active Allies to LGBTQQIA Communities

11-19-2015 23:52

Evaluators who are active allies to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQQIA) communities can play an important role in the effective and appropriate evaluation of programs serving those communities. Allies are defined as heterosexual evaluators who support gender equality and LGBTQQIA social movements but what does it mean to be an ally in the evaluation context? Considering the role of allies, as well as the need for evaluators to understand the experiences and identities of LGBTQIAA individuals, this session seeks to build capacity and greater understanding on how to approach evaluation with LGBTQQIA communities in a more culturally responsive way. We invite LGBTQQ evaluators, as well as seasoned and novice allied evaluators, to gather in a safe space to discuss how to become better allies and support evaluation design, implementation, and dissemination that is inclusive and mindful of different segments of the LGBTQQIA community.
