Evaluation organizations play a crucial role in advancing equity by promoting and practicing participatory processes that involve those most affected by the research questions. Evaluation organizations can expand on that work by creating pathways for youth of color and individuals underrepresented in the evaluation field. Rainbow Research has re-conceptualized our participatory work to more systematically create pathways for youth of color to gain and build on professional evaluation skills through the following avenues: 1) providing evaluation capacity building directly with youth participants from partnering community organizations, 2) working with a team of young adults on participatory evaluation projects, and 3) hosting high school and college evaluation interns. In this session, we will make the case for the role evaluation firms can have in increasing underrepresented communities in the evaluation profession. We will share lessons learned and challenges from our experience in implementing this new model.
