In this paper we review different approaches to the measurement of poverty, and present our work on development of a multidimensional indicator-based system designed to establish community profiles across multiple domains affected by poverty: health, food security, housing, transportation, economic development, employment, safety, family and child well-being, education, community infrastructure, access to community resources, social inclusion, and environmental resources. Given the complexity of poverty and the importance of poverty measures in the evaluation of interventions or programs designed to alleviate poverty, we argue that this holistic approach may enhance capacity for evaluators and researchers to recognize successful solutions to poverty based on a range of indicators
