Volunteer Opportunities

The success of the ICCE TIG and the AEA annual conference is due in large part to a cadre of volunteers who donate their time and expertise to various tasks.  Below are two important upcoming tasks for our TIG.  Please consider volunteering.  You will play a part in making the ICCE TIG and the AEA conference a great success in the future!

Conference Proposals Review

The number of conference proposals sponsored by our TIG has increased significantly over the last few years. Therefore, TIG members are always encouraged to contribute some of their time to review conference proposals pertaining to international and cross-cultural issues in evaluation. Each volunteer is normally expected to review 4-5 proposals based on a number of criteria that the ICCE TIG has consistently used over the years to assess the quality of each proposal. It is a very interesting work, and does not take too much time (you would have 2-3 weeks around April-May to complete the task and we already provide you with the "scoring" sheet).  This volunteer work would also provide you the opportunity to actively contribute to the conference content. If you would like to volunteer as a conference proposal reviewer, please e-mail the Co-Chair: Conference Program.

Travel Award Applications Review

The number of travel award applications submitted by our international members has increased each year. Therefore, we strongly encourage our TIG members to volunteer to help with the review of the Travel Award Applications.

For those who might not be aware of the AEA travel awards program, here is a brief description: Travel Awards allow AEA members from a selected number of countries outside the US (low- and middle-income countries) who have never participated in the AEA conference in the past and whose conference proposals have been accepted, to come to the US and attend the AEA conference. Every year, the travel awards recipients are celebrated at our TIG Business meeting (organized during the conference) and are given the opportunity to briefly present some of their evaluation work. If you would like to be a reviewer (the review is expected to take place around July before the conference), please contact the Co-Chair: Travel Awards.

AEA365 Blogs
Each year we sponsor a week of blogposts on AEA's AEA365 blog. In this week we feature the work of our ICCE members on topics related to international and cross-cultural evaluation. If you are interested in writing a blog for this week, please get in touch with one of the ICCE Co-Chairs.

TIG Co-Chair Nomination

Each year we need a new co-chair for a 3-year term. We are happy to accept nominations for others or self-nominations. The ICCE TIG has 3 co-chairs. Each year a new person joins the group and the most senior co-chair receives our thanks and steps down. With 3 co-chairs the work is spread out:

Year 1 – Coordinate the travel awards reviews and selections.

Year 2 – Serve as Program Chair for the TIG. Assign reviewers (we have LOTS of volunteers from the TIG) and manage the review process. Headquarters has all the forms, training, and directions needed.

Year 3 – Coordinate the business meeting, serve as a liaison to the rest of the TIGs and association.

Who is eligible for nomination? A Co-chair nominee should:

  1. Be part of the TIG for at least 2 years;
  2. Have attended at least 1 AEA conference;
  3. Plan to attend the following 3 conferences;
  4. Have connectivity; and,
  5. Be on email.

A Co-Chair nominee does not have to be a US resident. We estimate it takes 5-10 days a year of time as a co-chair. As co-chair you’ll meet lots of interesting people and learn more about your association and profession. You don’t have to be a top-notch evaluator; we are looking for good people skills. Please contact the TIG Chair with nominations.
