10-23-2012 15:36

The purpose of this study was to explore data analysis approaches in evaluating after school programs to determine if grades and after school program attendance were predictive of ISAT achievement scores. Presentation Abstract: Afterschool programs provide structured, supervised and meaningful activities that impact learning for school-aged children. Research indicates that the most successful afterschool programs provide services to students through thoughtful and fun programming that is built on activities that are relevant and interesting to students. Moreover, afterschool programs have shown stronger gains in math and significant gains in reading and that afterschool programs will effectively address low reading and math ISAT scores. This seems to help with motivation and engagement and promote connection to the broader community. The purpose of this study was to explore data analysis approaches in evaluating after school programs to determine if grades and after school program attendance were predictive of ISAT achievement scores. Afterschool programs could provide the necessary opportunities and support to improve math and reading skills. Thus, interventions performed on middle school students may provide the academic environment for the children to advance in life.
