Attached are materials for Eval12 Session 354 on "Measuring Influence Strategies in Philanthropy" Abstract fo session: Foundations are increasingly lifting up influence strategies as a way to achieve the overall impact connected with their goals. Influence strategies differ significantly from implementing traditional grant making because the immediate focus is typically on changes in systems, policies, organizational practices, partnerships, and social norms rather than changes in individuals’ lives. Clearly, the evaluation of influence strategies has significant relevance to both the accountability and learning associated with this work. Using case examples from the Annie E. Casey Foundation and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this think tank session will articulate how philanthropic influence strategies are being approached by two Foundations. Presenters will share how influence is being defined in each case, examples of evaluation and data collection approaches in use, and questions and associated challenges for consideration. Think tank participants will address questions in small groups, and will then share insights with the full group. #Non-ProfitsandFoundationsEvaluation #EvaluationUse #TheoriesofEvaluation #AdvocacyandPolicyChange #2012Conference
