This presentation explores the challenges and successes of using SenseMaker® as part of a mixed method evaluation of a CARE project in Bangladesh. The Tipping Point project focuses on adolescent girl empowerment and social norms change to address the underlying causes of child marriage. Hundreds of girls, boys, fathers and mothers shared stories and then analyzed their specific experiences related to these norms. SenseMaker® was part of a mixed-methods evaluation involving a survey, Photovoice, focus group discussions using participatory tools and key informant interviews. This presentation focuses on the SenseMaker® experience to measure social norms change related to the expectations of adolescent girls. Experiences and challenges will be discussed across the evaluation process: method selection, sequencing, tool development, and data collection, analysis and interpretation of the findings across the multiple methods.
