Evaluation is an essential function of good government, and so are opportunities for the public to make their voices heard. Public data professionals, including federal evaluators, are navigating uncertain and rapidly changing policy environments. Knowing how to effectively advocate for your work, and your field, has never been more consequential.

On April 14, AEA and the Evaluation Policy Task Force hosted a Town Hall bringing together practitioners and policy experts to share strategies for engaging the policy process on behalf of evaluation and data. From responding to requests for information (RFIs) to writing public comments and communicating with Congress, evaluators have more tools available than they may realize—and a community ready to support them.

Our panelists shared their perspectives on:

How to communicate with Congress about the value of evaluation and public data, including what works and what doesn't - Engaging federal agencies and the administration through RFIs and other public comment opportunities
Practical examples of advocacy letters and written communications that have made an impact
How AEA and allied organizations are coordinating efforts to support the field
Speakers:

Katherine Dawes, Lecturer, George Washington University
Felicia Fulilove, PhD, Associate Director, Advancing Public Trust in Higher Education at the American Association of Colleges & Universities
Beth Jarosz, Vice President, Association of Public Data Users
