Evaluation 2020

An Impact Statement Approach for Nonprofits

10-22-2020 10:34

Abstract: As internal, nonprofit evaluators, we want to conduct high quality, evaluations using recognized, validated methods, often within the context of limited resources and nuance far beyond the circumstances we may have imagined during our training.  This presentation will describe how a statewide nonprofit—Colorado Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)--led 18 programs statewide in revising their theory of change and implementing a new system for monitoring and evaluation using the concept of Health Impact Statements. CASAs are volunteers appointed by judges to provide best interest advocacy to children who have experienced abuse or neglect through advocating in court and supporting the child in daily life. CASA programs exist in 18 of 22 of the judicial districts in Colorado and 49 states nationally. The presentation will demonstrate how the health impact methodology can meet the competing needs of quick turnaround, sound methods and a process that supports many stakeholders.
