Team-based coding of qualitative data - A demonstration & Discussion

11-14-2019 23:07

These are slides from the AEA2019 Demonstration session entitled, "Team-based coding of qualitative data - A demonstration & Discussion". Increasingly, evaluators are asked to include qualitative data in evaluations or mixed-methods studies. Team-based coding is feasible within a structured pre-determined process that has multiple points for team members to interact. We share an example in which the team of analysts came together to refine objectives for the qualitative component of the study and build a codebook. The project was related to postpartum family planning in Ethiopia. We will describe how we worked to double code transcripts of interviews and focus group discussions using MAXQDA software and write up results using the ‘one sheet of paper’ analysis process. Join this session to feel more confident leading a team-based qualitative coding project.
