Meta analysis: age-related measurement error can lead to systematic overestimates of childhood stunting rates

10-21-2020 17:06

Hello and welcome to my poster!

Stunting, or low stature for age, is an important indicator used in population-based surveys to evaluate childhood nutrition status.  In this meta-analysis, I demonstrate that among the surveys studied there is a surprisingly strong correlation between age measurement error and height-for-age standard deviation values.  Based on simulation work, a consequence of this is the output stunting prevalence rates from these surveys are likely significantly biased by up to 15 percentage points.
