Eval182018 ConferenceSlides and HandoutsDuring this workshop, presenters introduced a “language justice” approach to evaluation, based on our experiences leading research and evaluation activities with multilingual anti-domestic violence advocates from historically marginalized communities. Non-English speakers (communities of color, immigrant and refugee communities) consistently face multiple forms of racism and discrimination. The language justice approach seeks to implement practices that achieve equity in language, including de-centering English and centering the perspectives and experiences of non-English speakers, who are too often excluded from evaluation activities. The workshop included a brief introduction to the language justice framework, with a particular emphasis on participatory methodologies, and a practical scenario to put the language justice approach into practice with suggestions for how to integrate this framework into participants' own evaluation activities.
