Evaluation 2020

Session ID 2369: Collaboratively Developing Evaluation Capacity Building Strategies in the Social Sector

10-21-2020 18:41

Community organizations face pressures to demonstrate evidence of success as they seek or renew funding. Rather than generating and using evidence to inform practices and programs, data is collected that minimally supports organizational decision-making and action. This is especially challenging in the early childhood field, a priority area within the social sector. The Evaluation Capacity Network (ECN) is an interdisciplinary and intersectoral partnership that seeks to strengthen evaluation capacity in the early childhood field. In efforts to deepen understandings of current evaluation gaps, assets and priorities in the field, the ECN is leading an environmental scan comprised of peer-reviewed and grey literature scans and community engagement dialogues. This poster presents preliminary findings from a series of scoping reviews that explore core topical areas in evaluation: community-driven evaluation; culturally responsive evaluation; evaluation capacity building; and evaluation use and influence. Evaluation in the context of the early childhood field is studied at the intersection of these four areas.
