Presentation from our session Eval17: Bringing Stakeholders to the Table: Using Data Placemats for Participatory Analysis in Nonprofit and Foundation Settings (Nov 11, 2017, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM)Presenters:
There are many frameworks guiding program evaluation in nonprofit and foundation settings; a common one is that of a “data inquiry cycle,” in which the circular steps are Plan, Collect, Analyze, Disseminate, and Act. Often the latter two can be difficult—how do you engage stakeholders in a process of reflecting on data in a way that is respectful of their perspectives and expertise, allows for collaborative meaning making, and, quite frankly, is not boring? This demonstration session will focus on the use of “Data Placemats,” a facilitative technique that incorporates data visualization for engaging stakeholders in data interpretation. In this session, panelists will share examples and lessons learned from projects that incorporated Data Placemats, including in a one-day workshop with 4-H camp staff, in an internal “Learning Conversation” with social work staff, to facilitate a community of practice with grantees, and to foster discussion about a foundation’s community-based initiatives.
