Evaluation of Simulation-based Training for Implementation of an Electronic Health Record

10-15-2013 21:45

Simulation-based education uses technology (high fidelity manikins) and trained humans as standardized patients to duplicate conditions in real life situations. Electronic health record (EHRs) are digital records of patients' medical and treatment history. Adoption rates of EHRs varies across U.S. hospitals and institutions. Simulation-based education will be used to train all outpatient and inpatient clinical staff in the complex medical institution over short period of time. Large scope of the project in complex institution was challenging for implementation of evaluation. However, the most challenging part of evaluation in multiple context will be to provide evidence that the training method made a difference on learners' skills, patient-centered care, and patient safety.
