Speaking Program Participants’ Truth Using Culturally Responsive Evaluation PracticesPresentation Type: Skill-Building WorkshopPresenters: Valerie York & Wendi StarkTIG: Disabilities and Underrepresented PopulationsAbstract: The Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation (OEIE) will present their best practices for use of culturally responsive evaluation practices on a variety of grant-funded programs. The presentation will highlight culturally responsive practices that span different phases of the evaluation - from evaluation design and instrument development to data collection, analysis, and reporting - that can be applied across a variety of projects and populations. OEIE will describe how use of culturally responsive practices allows participants and evaluators to “speak truth to power” by ensuring the honest and accurate representation of participants’ perspectives and experiences. The presenters will emphasize the importance of collaborating with program leadership; being open, flexible, and willing to learn; reflecting on cultural differences; and valuing diversity and inclusion, while maintaining awareness of these issues throughout the evaluation. Attendees will walk away with culturally responsive tips and tools they can apply to enhance their own evaluations.
