2012 AEA Conference Presentation Session Title: Measuring Implementation of Curriculum, Materials, and Content Knowledge Description: Using teacher logs to measure program implementation and report in real time. RJ de la Cruz Sarah Sahni Alina Martinez Presentation Abstract: The NASA Explorer Schools (NES) project offers participants NASA-based materials that can be integrated into science, technology, mathematics, and engineering classrooms. A primary goal for the evaluation of NES has been to better understand teachers’ use of these materials. At the time the external evaluation team from Abt Associates joined in 2010, there was limited knowledge about the frequency of product use, and teachers’ impressions of the project materials. The evaluation team has incorporated teacher logs into the evaluation design in order to collect data on teacher use. Though they were originally conceived as a means to collect data on aggregate use over the school year, we have added questions on quality and are able to use monthly log data to provide a snapshot of teacher use to the program. By remaining flexible in our approach we have been able to use these logs for multiple purposes.
