Slide show for demonstration session 592 "Lessons Learned From the Minnesota Young Adult Alcohol Survey (YAAS)" Presentation Abstract: The Minnesota Young Adult Alcohol Survey (YAAS), conducted in select Minnesota communities in the spring of 2012, represents a novel, low-cost attempt at obtaining generalizable estimates of substance use rates in young adults. Past surveys of young adults have struggled with low response rates. To address this issue a modified version of Dillman's Total Design Methodology (TDM) was used that offered participants the option of responding via web survey, in addition to the traditional mail-based option. Results and findings of the survey itself, response rates, and an evaluation of the inclusion of a web-based response option will be discussed. Finally, strengths and limitations of the YAAS will be assessed, particularly as they may relate to other organizations seeking to conduct similar surveys in the future.
