Abstract:
"A picture is worth a thousand words" - how often do we hear that?
Approaches to modeling a system, program, or intervention abound as do
the inevitable debates over which is best. This think tank challenges
participants to think of systems and logic models as complementary
tools for evaluation. Examples of both types of models, as well as an
example of an integrated model, will be provided and used as the basis
for group discussion. Questions that will be considered include: What
are the strengths and weaknesses of each? How can the two approaches to
modeling be integrated to provide a framework for understanding both
the program and the system in which it functions? Ultimately, it is
hoped that participants will come away with new ideas about how to
capture critical elements of process, context, and program theory in
their own work through the use of both types of models.
