Eval12 Session 622: Infrastructure: More Than Platforms For Moving Vehicles

01-14-2013 12:10

When infrastructure is discussed people tend to the think about the roads and highways they use to get their vehicle from point A to point B. Of course, public health evaluators and researchers have a different understanding of the word, but very few define it the same way. This is problematic when prominent public health organizations, such as the Institute of Medicine and Department of Health and Human Services have determined that infrastructure is the key to public health program success. A review of public health literature identified the lack of a model and evidence-based indicators for measuring public health infrastructure, and linking them to public health outcomes, capacity, and sustainability. This presentation will introduce and define infrastructure as a platform for public health programs to be able to take advantage of opportunities and defend against threats with examples from Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW).
