Welcome to the Community Psychology TIG website!

Our Mission

The Community Psychology Topical Interest Group (CP TIG) promotes the values and methods of community psychology in evaluation and evaluation theory and practice in community psychology.

What is Community Psychology?

  • Community psychology aims to create change in individuals and systems by focusing on contexts beyond the individual, including structural, socio-cultural, environmental & political contexts.
  • Community psychology evaluators take an approach that is ecological, value-driven, action-oriented and rooted in social justice and empiricism. We use innovative, applied, and often participatory research methodologies that involve partnering with communities stakeholders as co-researchers.

Check out what's new with the Community Psychology TIG:

  • Have you wanted to write an AEA 365 blog (singularly or as a collective), but never quite got around to…writing.  Our AEA365 week begins on Sunday, June 2 and runs through Friday, June 7th so we need six confirmed bloggers to make our week a success; we’re hoping this is your year to blog (or re-blog if you’ve blogged before).  We have a couple of themes: 1) the conference theme, “paths to the future of evaluation: Contribution, leadership, renewal” and 2) community psychology in action around the principles we value.  Each theme is broad enough to accommodate a wide assortment of blogs so if either resonate, or you’ve got a different idea, do consider submitting.  If you really think about it, writing an AEA365 blog is a way of continuing to elevate the evaluation work of community psychologists or the work of evaluators who are informed by community psychology.  The evaluation field needs to know what we do and how we do it; it’s amazing the power that 450 words hold. Our week is coming up fast and all blogs are due to AEA by May 20th, but blogs are due to Duane House (Lhouse1@cdc.gov) the CP TIG AEA365 Week curator by Friday, May 18th.  To get a sense of community psychology topics members have blogged about you can check out our 2018 AEA365 blogs at: http://aea365.org/blog/?s=Community+Psychology&submit=Go.   Unsure about how to go about writing a blog?  AEA has contribution guidelines that will answer your every question.  Again, please give all due consideration to writing an AEA365 blog, it's great on any résumé or CV and you'll be archived on the AEA website in perpetuity!
