Social media is changing the landscape for communication. Program evaluations can now be tailored to capture the impact of health promotion and communication that occurs via social media tools. CREEHS conducted a process evaluation of a community obesity prevention initiative in New Jersey, which used social media tools to communicate about its programs. Technical assistance (TA) created and supported a network of grantees and promoted the use of three social media sites. Evaluation activities included a web-based grantee survey, group telephone interviews with each community, document reviews and progress monitoring of project-related social media sites. Social media helped to form a learning network of grantees, provided a platform for highlighting program accomplishments and challenges, and shared messages on obesity prevention topics to a greater audience. Social media offers a promising opportunity to deliver ongoing TA, encourage information sharing, magnify the reach of health messages, and expand older adults' technological skills.#HealthEvaluation #2013Conference
