Researching how health professionals process and cope with the distressing events they often witness in the clinical setting can help those around them understand how to best support these individuals. This becomes especially relevant when supporting health professionals who are practicing in unfamiliar, low-resource, high-mortality clinical settings abroad. Through this presentation, Seed Global Health shared experiences from their first attempt at understanding how serving abroad in limited-resource African settings for at least one year impacted the resiliency, stress, and culture shock of physician, nurse and midwife Educators. This session also shared lessons learned in conducting longitudinal research with this unique population, including issues in balancing Educator needs with data collection needs, and differences in the expected versus actual results of this research.
