1977: Poster: Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation Approaches in an International Context: Case Studies of Five Projects Across Multiple Countries

10-23-2020 17:00

Participatory monitoring and evaluation (PM&E) allows for providing local context, results relevant to stakeholders, and information to refine program implementation. Stakeholder engagement can occur at different implementation and evaluation steps such as developing data collection tools, refining program implementation, and interpreting findings. A few examples of engaging stakeholders in data collection instrument design, include working with stakeholders on survey design in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador and calibrating reading assessments to match the country context. Examples of engaging stakeholders during project implementation, include refining a project’s theory of change between project phases in Burkina Faso, and convening standing committees in Uganda. Lastly, presenting initial performance evaluation findings to key stakeholders after fieldwork provides an opportunity for feedback reflecting local voices.

Though a bit heavy on wording, the poster illustrated well the several phases in project/program design (e.g., Theories of Change), implementation and/or interpretation of results where "Participatory M&E" lends additional value and--I would add--increases likelihood of buy-in & sustainability. Good stuff. Thanks.
