The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences uses a strategic plan to guide program planning and funding decisions. We encourage applicants to consider the plan when submitting their research ideas for consideration. We use four strategies to track implementation of the plan for grants. First, we code Funding Opportunity Announcements and internal management activities to provide information on the scientific direction proposed by staff. Second, we prospectively code each funded grant for a primary strategic plan goal that describes the work. Third, we code the grantee accomplishments to capture their actual impact. And fourth, we identify case studies or narratives of exemplary implementation of specific strategic plan goals. NIEHS leadership use these data in presentations to stakeholders to demonstrate our commitment to the implementation of the strategic plan. This poster will describe the four activities and report on interim progress related to their implementation.
