The VA’s MISSION Act (June 2019) addresses healthcare disparities for Veterans by expanding access to non-VA primary care services. Few studies explore rural Veteran perspectives on community care or evaluate the impact of the MISSION Act’s expansion on access to care. Therefore, we developed a partnership between the Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network (ORPRN), the WWAMI region Practice and Research Network (WPRN), and the Veterans Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC, Portland, OR) to examine the impact of the MISSION Act on rural Veterans’ experience of care in rural western states. This study utilizes semi-structured interviews with non-VA primary care providers to examine rural Veteran experiences with care within the first year of MISSION Act implementation.
