A main principle of empowerment evaluation is capacity building to equip stakeholders with the tools and skills needed to conduct their own evaluations. As evaluators, we often use focus groups as a way to gather data. How can we use our experience to support stakeholders wishing to solicit feedback from their community through productive and meaningful conversations? This poster presents one model of community engagement called Community Dialogues, a loosely facilitated discussion hosted by public library staff in which they discuss a community-based challenge or aspiration with members of their community. We encourage you to think about how you have supported or could support your stakeholders in community engagement by considering questions such as: How do you identify and reach your audience? How do you ask good questions? What facilitation techniques authentically engage audiences? How do you use information gleaned from community conversations to support shared learning and action?
