AEA 2017 Session Abstract:Internal evaluators are commonly responsible for helping non-evaluation colleagues use data in smart ways, a task that is particularly challenging with groups who aren’t comfortable with numbers. How many of you have colleagues who “love data,” but always want you to tell them what it means and what to do next? For this panel, we present unique approaches implemented at Year Up (program simulation and training games), Urban Alliance (creating scenario templates to help inform recruitment decisions), and College Bound Dorchester (using staff-led data workshops with program outcomes mapped to local communities). Each approach aims to help teams understand data and use that information to make informed decisions. Participants will leave with ideas for increasing data competencies and buy-in with non-evaluation stakeholders. This panel will be useful for audiences, especially internal evaluators, searching for creative ideas to increase data fluency among stakeholders.
